Noel Lance is one of our 2025 summer fellows. He has lived all over the intermountain west, and has done his fair share of international traveling. He is currently pursuing a J.D./MAcc double degree at BYU, after which he plans to pursue a career in either tax law or estate planning. As part of his Summer Fellowship, he externed at the Office of General Counsel – Africa South Area in South Africa where he worked on contract standardization and drafting, real property and title research, and opening a new country to the preaching of the gospel. Noel fiercely believes in religious freedom, and zealously advocates that everyone should have the right to free exercise of religion.
“My summer experience in South Africa was awesome! Externing with the Office of General Counsel of the Church was an experience unlike any other. I was privileged to work with incredibly competent attorneys and staff on crazy legal issues that touch all aspects of the law. I was also blessed to learn about the South African people, history, and culture, which was equally as rewarding. Working with the Center has made me realize how crucial the freedom of religion is and how vital it is that we protect it. Playing my small part in achieving that end was intellectually stimulating and morally fulfilling.”
