Conference on Infinite Dignity, Human Freedom, and the Place of Law

Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome, Italy

23 September 2025

The Center was a co-sponsor of a conference exploring respect for the dignity of the human person, from theological, philosophical-political, and legal
aspects. The conference was the result of a collaboration between Arturo Bellocq, professor of moral theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross; Andrea Pin, professor of comparative public law at the University of Padua Law School; and Brett Scharffs, director of BYU’s International Center for Law and Religion Studies. Bellocq said. “The idea [of this conference] was actually to find common ground and to discuss to what extent the concept of human dignity is useful or can serve as a common ground to start talking about these problems in a constructive and objective way.”

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was one of the speakers.
