Second Summer Conference on Religion and the Rule of Law – Beijing

For a second summer, international experts on law and religion have joined with Chinese scholars gathered in Beijing for an educational conference on the Rule of Law. This intensive course on comparative and international law and religion topics is taking place from 17 to 31 July. Professor Brett Scharffs and Cole Durham of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (Brigham Young University, USA) had principal responsibility for coordinating the academic program, assisted by Liu Peng, Janna Zhang, and Cathy Wang of the Pu Shi Institute and Professor Zhang Qianfang from Peking University. Foreign scholars in particpating this year included Senior Judge and Chief Judge Emeritus J. Clifford Wallace, Brian J. Grim (Senior Research, Pew Research Center, Mauro de Lorenzo (Vice President, Freedom and Free Enterprise, John Templeton Foundation), Professors Durham and Scharffs (Brigham Young University), R. Kent Greenawalt (Columbia University), Zachary Calo (Valparaiso University), and Johan van der Vyver (Emory University) of the United States, as well as Professors Gerhard Robbers (Germany), Jeroen Temperman (Netherlands), Rik Torfs (Belgium), and Renata Uitz (Hungary).
