Rohinton Fali Nariman is a distinguished former judge of the Supreme Court of India; he is known for his deep expertise in constitutional and civil law. He earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He also earned an LLB from the University of Delhi (where he ranked second in his class) and an LLM from Harvard Law School. He began practicing law in 1979 and was designated as senior counsel by Chief Justice Manepalli Narayanarao Venkatachaliah in 1993. Judge Nariman served from July 2011 to February 2013 as solicitor general of India. He also served as a member of the Bar Council of India. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of India in July 2014 and served until August 2021. He played a key role in cases such as the Triple Talaq verdict, Sabarimala temple entry, and freedom of speech matters. He founded the Supreme Court Lawyers Welfare Trust to support young lawyers.
