Professor, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
Rocío Cortés-Rodríguez is an assistant professor in the Department of Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She specializes in interreligious dialogue, focusing on the interactions between Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Indigenous religious traditions. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Cortés-Rodríguez has explored the complex dynamics of coexistence in religiously diverse contexts. During her master’s studies at the University of Helsinki (Finland), she examined the coexistence of Jews, Christians, and Muslims in 10th- century al-Andalus (present-day Andalusia). She later expanded her research during her PhD at the University of Notre Dame (USA), focusing on interreligious interactions in contemporary settings. In 2019, she introduced Chileans to scriptural reasoning methodology, an innovative method of interfaith dialogue that has fostered new opportunities for mutual understanding and collaboration among faith communities. Since 2022, Dr. Cortés-Rodríguez has served on the board of the Association for Interreligious Dialogue in Chile. This role reflects her ongoing pastoral commitment to the Department of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue at the Archbishopric of Santiago.
