November 2009 – Paris

The organisations l’ANVIE et Cultes et Cultures Consulting joined to present a journée d’études in Paris on Wednesday, 25 November 2009.  This “study day” was devoted to a consideration of the application of laïcité and the management of fait religieux in the business world. Convening on the occasion of the release of the first status report on the managment of fait religieux in business and in public institutions and services, the event was designed for discussion among human resource managers, development and social relationships managers, diversity managers, lawyers, administrators, department heads, elected officials, policymakers, and others.  Participants sought to share, decipher, and analyse the report, as they considered such questions as the following:  

• Upon what criteria can managment meet the difficult requirements of ensuring employees their freedom to believe without impeding for others the freedom not to believe?  
• How may public services, guarantors of state secularism, guarantee the demands of users without provoking segregation among citizens?  
• What limits may be place upon individual liberties without being discriminatory?
