John & Hannah Smith

John is the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Ryan, a global tax services and software provider, based in the Dallas office. John spent 12 years in Texas and Virginia at Raytheon Technologies, an American multinational aerospace and defense corporation. He also served as associate counsel to U.S. President George W. Bush and the lead lawyer for the White House Homeland Security Council staff. He began his legal career by clerking for Judge Samuel Alito, and then by practicing at the international law firm of Covington & Burling. John graduated with high honors from both Princeton University and Brigham Young University Law School.

Hannah clerked for Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito, Jr. of the US Supreme Court. She also had a distinguished decade of service as Senior Counsel at Becket Law. She was a member of the legal teams that secured victories in key US Supreme Court religious liberty cases. During her time at Becket, she contributed to 25 Supreme Court briefs and represented more than 13 major faith groups. Hannah was an associate in private practice at national law firms in Washington DC. She received her JD from J. Reuben Clark Law School, where she received many awards, and her BA from Princeton University. She and her husband, John, are the parents of four children.
