Joel Ortega Dopico studied at the Evangelical Seminary of Theology of Matanzas, where he completed his master’s degree and PhD in ministries. Ordained as a governing presbyter at the age of 23 in the Presbyterian Church in Cuba, he has served as pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Varadero. He is the executive secretary of the Presbytery of Matanzas and a member of the Governing Board of the Matanzas Theology Seminary. He also holds roles in the Department of Program and Mission and is a member of the General Council of the Synod of the Presbyterian Church in Cuba. He has served as vice president and president of the Council of Churches of Cuba and president of the Cuba Bible Society. Additionally, Reverend Ortega Dopico is vice moderator of CANACOM and serves on the executive committee of CANAAC and the ACT Alliance. He is a board member of Global Ministries of the Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ in the United States.
