Executive Director, The Woolf Institute

 

Esther-Miriam Wagner is the executive director of the Woolf Institute, a fellow of St. Edmund’s College, and a faculty member at Cambridge University. Specifically, she is an affiliate lecturer at the faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern studies. She currently serves as a copresident of the Cambridge Theological Federation. In addition, she is vice president of the Society for the Medieval Mediterranean and the editor in chief of the prestigious historical journal Al-Masāq. She serves on numerous editorial boards and academic advisory committees. Dr. Wagner is a historical sociolinguist and philologist by training and completed her doctorate at the University of Cambridge. She has written and edited numerous books and articles on sociolinguistics and historical linguistics of Judaeo-Arabic and Yiddish, scribal practice, and Jewish-Muslim-Christian relations in Egypt and Muslim Spain as reflected in the Genizah sources.
