Conference in Jerusalem: Legal and Moral Challenges of Religious Resurgence

The conference “Legal and Moral Challenges of Religious Resurgence” was held 22-23 March 2015 in Jerusalem, at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute. Co-sponsored by the Institute and the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies (ICLARS, Milan, Italy), with assistance from the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS, Brigham Young University Law School, Utah, United States), the conference featured presentations from scholars from Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Participants were greeted and welcomed by Director of the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, Gabriel Motzkin; by ICLARS President Cole Durham, and by Joseph David, Associate Faculty Member, University of Oxford and Professor of Law, Sapir Academic College, who all joined again for Closing Reflections. José Casanova, Head of The Berkley Center’s Program on Globalization, Religion and the Secular and Professor of Sociology, Georgetown University, gave the Jeynote Address, “The Challenge of Religious and Secular Pluralism: Towards Post-confessional and Post-secularist States.”

Professor Durham participated in a Round Table discussion, “Religious and the Secular,” with Moshe Halbertal, Ahman Natour, and Ishak Englard.
