Brent J. Belnap was born and raised in the State of Utah in the United States. He received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University School of Law in New York City. After law school, he worked in Manhattan as an international transactional lawyer, handling a broad variety of finance, securities, corporate, and mergers and acquisitions matters. He subsequently became in-house counsel and senior vice president with Citigroup, where he worked for 10 years. He later worked as managing director with a financial advisory/investment banking firm, mostly on corporate restructuring matters. In 2012, after living in New York City for 26 years, Brent was invited to join the Office of General Counsel of a large global religious organization (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). Brent worked as Area Legal Counsel in Moscow, Russia, and, most recently, in Accra, Ghana, where he lived with his family for three years. Brent has extensive global experience addressing legal audiences on the rule of law and freedom of conscience and belief. Brent has been an active member of ACLARS for nearly a decade. He has also appeared on the “Today Show” and has been cited in numerous press articles, including in The New York Times. Brent and his wife Lorinda have six children.
