Author reveals that Brazilians prefer soap plots that do not represent a specific religion on prime time

Randa Vieira

Soap opera author Elizabeth Jhin told O Globo in an exclusive interview that Brazilian viewers are not interested in the dramatic representation of an specific faith on prime time (8pm in Brazil). In 2007, the author attempted to do so in ‘Eterna Magia’ (originally translated into English as ‘Eternal Magic’) but ended up watching tv ratings go down like never before. In 2012, the author has chosen to talk about different religious faiths without singling one out. An interesting result and approach in a country where the population is considered to be comprised of highly faithful people and accepting of religious diversity.
