The Seventh Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, “Comparative Constitutional Perspectives on Freedom of Religion and Belief,” 8-10 October 2000

The Seventh Annual Symposium provided a forum for the discussion of comparative religion and law at the constitutional level. Key addresses were delivered by Orrin Hatch, United States Senator; Lech Garlicki, Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland (now a judge on the European Court of Human Rights); David Little, Harvard Divinity School and President, International Academy for Freedom of Religion and Belief; and Michael McConnell, Presidential Professor of Law, College of Law, University of Utah (now a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit). The discussion was broad as well as deep: 66 participants represented more than 38 nations. After the conference, some participants further developed their papers, which were then published in the annual law and religion symposium issue of the BYU Law Review.
