Before Alexa leaves for her summer fellows externship in Mexico, we asked her a few questions:
1. What do you expect to gain from this externship?
I hope to deepen my understanding of how legal systems intersect with religious freedom in international contexts. I’m excited to develop practical skills, contribute meaningfully to the Center’s mission, and gain insight into how law can be used to support communities around the world.
2. What are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about working with people who are passionate about religious freedom and human dignity. I’m also looking forward to immersing myself in real-world issues and learning from the mentors and scholars associated with the Center. As I work with Chris Bauer in the Church’s Mexico City Area Legal Counsel office, I’m especially excited to see how The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints operates on a legal and administrative level in an international setting.
3. Why did you apply?
I applied because I care deeply about public service and believe in the power of law to protect fundamental rights. The mission of ICLRS resonates with my values, and I saw this as a meaningful opportunity to grow both professionally and personally!
