The Supreme Court of Brazil decided on September 12, 2012, that the Brazilian Masonic Organization was not a religious entity and, therefore, not entitled to tax exemption. Justice Ricardo Lewandowski, who wrote the opinion of the majority, reasoned that Freemasonry is not a religion but a life style.
