The Supreme Court of Bahia declared the ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ Act unconstitutional today in a special proceeding. According to the law enacted in December of 2011, it was mandatory for students attending public schools in the state of Bahia (in northeastern Brazil) to pray ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ before the first morning class. The court based its decision on the principle of religious freedom protected by the Brazilian Constitution.
