European Science Foundation Conference – Religion, Gender and Human Rights: Challenges for Multicultural and Democratic Societies

21-25 June 2011 – Sweden

The European Science Foundation (ESF) sponsored a research conference “Religion, Gender and Human Rights: Challenges for Multicultural and Democratic Societies,” on 21-25 June 2011 in Scandic Linköping Vast, Sweden. Chair of the conference was Dr. Niamh Reilly, National University of Ireland, Galway, assisted by co-chairs Stacey Scriver, National University of Ireland, Galway, IE and Sara Silvestri, City University London, UK.  This conference examined the nexus of religion, gender, identity, human rights, and politics with a particular focus on Europe in a context of globalization, filling a gap in current literature on religion, politics, and society, which tends to ignore or treat as secondary the gendered dimensions of these developments.
