Jelle Ludo Creemers

Jelle Ludo Creemers is a professor and the academic dean of religious studies at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit (ETF) in Leuven, Belgium, where he also currently serves as academic dean. He is the director of the Institute for the Study of Freedom of Religion or Belief at ETF Leuven, which conducts interdisciplinary research on the intersection of religion, human rights, and secular society with a particular focus on the European continent. Professor Creemers’s primary research interest is in religion-state relations in Belgium and the implications for religious minorities, for which he received research grants from the Flemish Research Foundation in 2015 and 2021. He has written several academic and professional papers on church-state relations in the Journal of Church and State, Trajecta, and the International Journal for Religious Freedom. He has also coedited academic volumes on FORB-related topics in Annua Nuntia Lovaniensia (2019), the ICLARS Series on Law and Religion (Routledge, 2025), and the Boundaries of Religious Freedom series (Springer, forthcoming).
