Agil Shirinov

Rector, Azerbaijan Institute of Theology

Agil Shirinov received his PhD in social sciences—specifically in Islamic philosophical theology—from Marmara University, Türkiye. His thesis was on the existence and deity according to Nasir al-Din al-Tusi. Professor Shirinov worked as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Theology of Baku State University from 2008 to 2018. His teaching and research interests cover the history of Islamic denominations, including radical denominations of Islam and relations between Islamic theology (kalam), medieval peripatetic philosophy, and Sufism. Professor Shirinov has authored six books and more than 20 articles on Islamic theology and philosophy as well as on the history of different Islamic denominations. He currently serves as the rector of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology.
