Elle McConkie Externship Experience

My name is Elle McConkie and I am a rising 2L at BYU Law! I spent 4 weeks with the Office of General Counsel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Salt Lake City Church Headquarters. I loved my time at the OGC! There were two aspects of this internship that I found particularly valuable: (1) the wide variety of legal work I had the opportunity to work on and (2) the connections I made with the OGC attorneys. (1) Because the OGC works on such a vast scope of legal issues, I was able to work on projects in various legal disciplines (i.e., contracts, national and international compliance, agriculture, and religious freedom). This was a valuable experience for me to engage with different practice areas and get a better sense of the type of legal work I am interested in as I prepare to enter professional practice. (2) The OGC, unlike many of the Church’s area legal offices, has many attorneys overseeing different Church offices. I loved getting a chance to work with multiple attorneys because I got to learn about their unique areas of expertise and legal backgrounds. I feel lucky to have made such meaningful connections with these attorneys who continue to be examples to me of the type of attorney I hope to be!
